By Assalamu Alaikum. Day 5 of the 16 Blessed Days Hajj 2026 journey brought a completely different experience as the pilgrimage moved from Makkah toward Mina, the vast tent city where pilgrims gather for worship, reflection, and preparation for the most important stages of Hajj.
The journey began in the early hours of the morning from Aziziyah. Long before sunrise, the streets were already filled with pilgrims making their way toward transportation points. Thousands of people were moving in the same direction, many dressed in Ihram and reciting the Talbiyah. Even with the darkness and crowds, there was a powerful sense of unity as pilgrims from different countries came together for the same purpose.
The Early-Morning Journey to Mina
Getting to Mina was an experience in itself. Buses carrying pilgrims filled the roads, creating heavy traffic and long queues. What might normally have been a short journey took considerably longer because of the enormous number of people traveling toward Mina at the same time.
Eventually, the bus reached the Mina camp. Volunteers helped guide pilgrims toward their assigned areas, making the arrival much easier despite the crowds.
One of the most interesting moments came shortly after arrival. Because of the early hour, the tent area was still relatively quiet and uncrowded. It offered a rare opportunity to see the surroundings before the camp became filled with pilgrims.
From a Quiet Camp to a City of Pilgrims
After arriving, Fajr prayer brought the first peaceful moment of the day before it was time to rest. Later, waking up revealed just how quickly Mina had changed.
The previously quiet tent was now surrounded by pilgrims, activity, movement, and conversation. Mina had transformed into a temporary city filled with people from countless nations, all sharing the same spiritual destination.
The tent itself became an important part of daily life. Pilgrims rested, ate meals, prayed, talked, and prepared for the days ahead. Living together in a simple environment also highlighted one of the important lessons of Hajj: humility and equality.
Life Inside the Mina Tent
Spending time inside the Mina camp provides a glimpse into an aspect of Hajj that is rarely captured in photographs of the major holy sites.
The experience is not only about walking from one location to another. It is also about adapting to communal living, managing limited space, maintaining patience, and following a daily routine centered around worship.
Prayer remained at the heart of the day. A large group of men gathered together for Salah, creating a deeply moving atmosphere inside the camp. Standing alongside fellow pilgrims and praying together made the experience feel even more meaningful.
Meals and rest were also part of the routine. Simple moments such as sharing food and speaking with other pilgrims became memorable because of the unique circumstances surrounding them.
Preparing for Arafat
Perhaps the biggest focus of the day was what was coming next: Arafat.
The guidance provided by the Muallem and Maulana helped pilgrims understand what to expect during the upcoming stages of Hajj, including the journey to Arafat and later to Muzdalifah. These preparations were both practical and spiritual, helping everyone approach the next stage with greater awareness.
As the day progressed, anticipation continued to build. Arafat represents one of the defining moments of Hajj, and knowing that this important day was approaching gave the atmosphere in Mina a special feeling.
A Different Kind of Hajj Experience
Day 5 demonstrated that Hajj is made up of many different experiences. There are the breathtaking moments of seeing the Kaaba, but there are also quieter experiences: waiting for transportation, sharing a tent, eating meals, resting after prayer, listening to guidance, and meeting fellow pilgrims.
These ordinary moments become extraordinary because they are part of a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey.
The massive scale of Mina also makes the diversity of the Muslim Ummah impossible to ignore. People from different cultures, languages, and countries gather together, temporarily leaving behind many of the differences of everyday life.
Looking Ahead to Arafat
As evening arrived, preparations began for the next major destination. The excitement surrounding the upcoming journey to Arafat was growing, while pilgrims made sure they were ready physically and spiritually.
After the long journey from Madinah to Makkah and the previous days of pilgrimage, Mina offered an opportunity to pause, reflect, and prepare for what lay ahead.
This day was a reminder that Hajj requires patience, cooperation, endurance, and faith at every stage. From the crowded roads to the shared tent and communal prayers, every part of the experience contributed to the deeper meaning of the pilgrimage.
Day 5 in Mina was not simply another stop on the journey. It was a preparation for one of the most significant moments of Hajj — the day of Arafat.
