By The Day of Arafat is one of the most significant moments of the Hajj journey. For pilgrims, it is a day of standing before Allah, making heartfelt dua, seeking forgiveness, remembering Him, and reflecting on the purpose of life and faith. Amid all of that worship, pilgrims also need moments to eat, rest, and regain their strength.
During Hajj 2026, we spent around 12 hours at Arafat. Being there among countless Muslims from different countries was an experience that is difficult to describe. The atmosphere was deeply spiritual, with pilgrims spending their time in prayer and supplication while preparing themselves for the next stages of the pilgrimage.
A Glimpse of Mealtime at Arafat
Although worship was naturally the main focus of the day, lunchtime gave us a short opportunity to experience another part of life at Arafat: the food provided for pilgrims.
I was able to capture some of the meals we had during our stay. There were several dishes to choose from, making the meal a welcome break after hours spent in the heat and engaged in worship.
Among the food we tried, the goat biryani stood out as one of my favorites. The rice was rich in flavor, and the goat was tender and satisfying. After spending several hours at Arafat, a warm and filling meal felt especially enjoyable.
The chicken was another highlight. It was tender, flavorful, and easy to enjoy after a long morning. Sometimes, after hours of walking, praying, and being outdoors, even a simple meal can feel particularly satisfying.
Food as Part of the Hajj Experience
Meals may seem like a small detail compared with the spiritual importance of Hajj, but they are also part of a pilgrim’s daily experience.
Hajj involves long periods of standing, walking, waiting, worshipping, and traveling between important locations. Maintaining energy becomes important, particularly during demanding days such as Arafat. A meal provides pilgrims with an opportunity to pause, refresh themselves, and prepare for the worship and journey ahead.
There is also something special about seeing Muslims from so many different backgrounds sharing the same experience. Regardless of where pilgrims come from or what language they speak, everyone is there for the same fundamental purpose: to worship Allah and complete the sacred pilgrimage.
The Unforgettable Day of Arafat
For me, the food was only a small part of a much bigger experience.
Standing at Arafat alongside thousands upon thousands of fellow pilgrims created a feeling that is hard to capture through a camera. The Day of Arafat is filled with hope, repentance, dua, and reflection. It is a time when pilgrims turn their attention toward Allah and ask for forgiveness, mercy, guidance, and acceptance.
Capturing a few moments from lunchtime allowed me to document a more ordinary side of an extraordinary day. Hajj is made up not only of the major spiritual moments, but also of the small experiences in between—eating a meal, resting for a while, talking with fellow pilgrims, and preparing to continue the journey.
A Personal Memory From Hajj 2026
Looking back, the meal at Arafat is memorable not simply because of the biryani or chicken, but because of where and when we were eating it.
After hours of worship on such an important day, sitting down for food provided a brief moment to recharge before returning to the spiritual focus of Hajj. It reminded me that even the simplest parts of daily life can become meaningful when experienced during such a profound journey.
This small glimpse into what we ate at Arafat offers just one perspective on Hajj 2026. Every pilgrim has their own memories, challenges, meals, prayers, and moments of reflection, and together these experiences form the unforgettable journey of Hajj.
