Colombia, Thank You for Everything: A Journey of Discovery, Adventure and Gratitude

Traveler exploring the colorful streets and landscapes of Colombia during a seven-day adventure

Some journeys stay with you long after the suitcase is unpacked. My time in Colombia was one of those journeys.

In just seven days, I experienced an incredible mix of cities, mountains, Caribbean coastlines, coffee country, colorful streets, unforgettable food, and moments that challenged me in ways I never expected. Colombia wasn’t simply a destination on my travel map—it became a collection of memories, lessons, and people that I will carry with me.

And as I prepared to leave, one thought kept coming back to me:

Colombia, thank you for everything.

Starting the Adventure in Bogotá

My Colombian adventure began in Bogotá, a city where history and modern life exist side by side. The capital immediately drew me in with its energetic streets, impressive architecture, colorful graffiti, and neighborhoods filled with character.

I returned to R10, a hostel that had already become familiar during my trip. There was something comforting about coming back to a place I knew while preparing to explore even more of Colombia.

One of the highlights was visiting Monserrate. Rising above Bogotá, the mountain provided an entirely different perspective of the sprawling capital. Looking down over the city and toward the surrounding mountains was one of those travel moments when you naturally stop, breathe, and appreciate where you are.

Discovering Colombia’s Caribbean Side

From Bogotá, the journey moved toward the Caribbean coast.

Santa Marta, Minca, and Taganga each revealed a different side of Colombia. Santa Marta brought the energy of a coastal city, while Minca offered a much calmer experience surrounded by nature and mountain scenery.

Taganga added another layer to the adventure, with its relaxed coastal atmosphere and colorful local life.

What made this part of the journey particularly memorable wasn’t just the scenery. It was the atmosphere—the conversations with other travelers, the local food, the spontaneous moments, and the feeling that every day could lead to something unexpected.

The Magic of Cartagena

Cartagena felt completely different again.

Walking through its historic streets was like stepping into a living postcard. Brightly painted buildings, colonial architecture, lively plazas, balconies covered with flowers, and the constant movement of people created an atmosphere that was impossible to ignore.

Cartagena showed me another side of Colombia: colorful, historic, expressive, and full of life.

It was the kind of place where simply walking without a strict plan could become an adventure.

Medellín and the View from Guatapé

The next chapter brought me to Medellín, a city with a fascinating identity and a reputation for transformation and innovation.

Beyond its modern character, what stood out most was the warmth of the people and the city’s vibrant culture. Medellín felt energetic without losing its human side.

Then came Guatapé.

The dramatic Peñol Rock and the surrounding lakes created one of the most striking landscapes of the entire trip. After climbing and taking in the views, it was easy to understand why Guatapé has become one of Colombia’s most popular destinations.

The colorful streets of the town added even more personality to the experience.

Into Colombia’s Coffee Country

The final part of the journey took me toward the coffee region, including Pereira, Salento, and Filandia.

Here, the pace seemed to change.

Instead of busy city streets and coastal energy, I found green mountains, rolling landscapes, coffee plantations, and charming towns where everyday life felt much more connected to the surrounding countryside.

Salento and Filandia were especially memorable for their colorful architecture and relaxed atmosphere. The region offered a reminder that Colombia’s beauty isn’t limited to its famous cities and beaches.

Sometimes, the most unforgettable views are found among mountains, farms, small streets, and quiet conversations.

When Travel Doesn’t Go According to Plan

Every great trip has its difficult moments.

During this journey, I experienced one of the worst frustrations a traveler can face: losing valuable camera equipment, including my iPhone and DJI camera.

It was a painful reminder that travel isn’t always perfect.

But looking back, even that experience became part of the story. Losing things forced me to step back from constantly documenting everything and focus more on actually experiencing what was happening around me.

Travel can teach you that plans can change in an instant. What matters is how you respond.

Colombia gave me beautiful views, but it also gave me lessons in patience, resilience, and letting go.

One Last Look at Bogotá

Eventually, it was time to leave.

On my final morning, I headed to El Dorado International Airport at 6 AM. Bogotá was still waking up as I traveled through the city, passing walls covered in remarkable graffiti and streets that had become familiar during my short stay.

There was something emotional about seeing those places one last time.

Seven days had passed quickly, but the journey had somehow felt much longer. So many cities, landscapes, conversations, unexpected events, and memories had been packed into a single week.

As the trip came to an end, I realized that the best part wasn’t simply the list of places I had visited.

It was everything that happened between them.

Colombia, Thank You

Colombia surprised me.

It challenged me.

It welcomed me.

And most importantly, it gave me memories that photographs alone could never fully capture.

From the mountains of Bogotá to the Caribbean coast, from Cartagena’s colorful streets to Medellín’s energy, from Guatapé’s incredible landscapes to the peaceful coffee region, every destination added another piece to the story.

There were perfect moments and difficult ones. There were moments of excitement, moments of frustration, and moments when I simply stood still and took everything in.

That’s what travel is really about.

Not just collecting destinations, but collecting experiences.

So, as this chapter comes to an end, I can only say:

Colombia, thank you for the adventure. Thank you for the lessons. Thank you for the people, the landscapes, the surprises, and the memories.

Until the next journey. 🇨🇴❤️
