By There are journeys that take you from one place to another, and then there are journeys that change the way you see the world.
Between the summer of 2025 and the summer of 2026, I had the opportunity to experience a year unlike any other—a year spent traveling, exploring unfamiliar places, meeting people from different backgrounds, witnessing incredible landscapes, and discovering new perspectives along the way.
Looking back now, it is difficult to describe the entire experience as simply “travel.” It was an adventure, an education, a spiritual experience, and, in many ways, a journey of personal growth.
A Year Defined by Movement and Discovery
One of the most beautiful things about traveling is never knowing exactly what the next destination will teach you.
Some days were about long drives and open roads. Others were spent wandering through cities, observing everyday life, or simply taking in a landscape that looked completely different from anything I had seen before.
From the vast wilderness of Yellowstone National Park to the colorful streets and diverse landscapes of Colombia and other parts of South America, every destination brought its own atmosphere and character.
There were mountains, roads, forests, cities, communities, and countless moments that could never be recreated in quite the same way.
Travel made me realize that the world is far bigger and more diverse than any map can communicate.
The Beauty of the Road
Some of my favorite memories came not from reaching a particular destination, but from the journey itself.
Road trips have a special way of turning travel into an experience. A long stretch of highway, an unexpected viewpoint, a quiet town, or a spontaneous stop can become part of the story.
There is something freeing about being on the road with no guarantee of what lies around the next corner.
Those moments reminded me that sometimes the most memorable parts of a journey are the things you never planned.
Discovering Colombia and South America
South America brought a completely different rhythm to the journey.
Colombia, in particular, offered a fascinating mixture of landscapes, cultures, traditions, and everyday experiences. From its vibrant environments to the warmth of its communities, traveling through the region provided a chance to see the world from perspectives different from my own.
What stayed with me most was not simply the scenery. It was the feeling of being immersed in places where daily life, culture, history, and community are expressed in ways that can be difficult to understand from a distance.
Travel becomes much more meaningful when you stop looking at a place as a tourist destination and start experiencing it as a living community.
Yellowstone and the Wonder of Nature
Among the many destinations along the way, Yellowstone represented another side of the journey—the extraordinary power and beauty of nature.
Standing in a place shaped by mountains, forests, wildlife, geothermal activity, and vast open landscapes creates a different kind of perspective.
Moments surrounded by nature have a way of making everyday concerns feel smaller.
The experience was a reminder that some of the most powerful travel memories don’t require crowded streets or famous landmarks. Sometimes, all you need is an incredible landscape and enough time to appreciate it.
Meeting People Along the Way
Destinations may be what appear on a travel itinerary, but people are often what we remember.
Throughout the year, encounters with different people added another layer to the journey. Conversations, shared experiences, hospitality, and simple moments of human connection became part of the memories.
People may speak different languages, follow different traditions, and live completely different lifestyles, yet travel often reveals how much we have in common.
Every encounter has the potential to teach us something.
Sometimes it is a lesson about culture. Sometimes it is about kindness. And sometimes it is simply a reminder that meaningful connections can happen anywhere.
When Travel Became a Spiritual Journey
Perhaps the most profound part of the year was experiencing Umrah and Hajj.
Unlike the other destinations on the journey, these were not simply places to explore. They were deeply spiritual experiences that brought reflection, gratitude, faith, and a sense of connection.
Traveling through different parts of the world had already given me countless opportunities to appreciate the beauty of creation. But experiencing these sacred journeys added another dimension to that perspective.
Umrah and Hajj provided moments to pause and reflect amid a year that had otherwise been filled with constant movement.
They reminded me that a journey is not always measured by the number of miles traveled or destinations visited. Some journeys are measured by what happens within you.
More Than a Collection of Countries
It would be easy to look at a year of international travel and focus on the number of destinations visited.
But that isn’t what this journey was ultimately about.
The countries, cities, parks, roads, and landscapes are pieces of a much larger story. The real value came from the experiences behind them—the lessons learned, the people encountered, the challenges faced, the unexpected moments, and the memories created.
Travel taught me to be more curious.
It taught me to appreciate differences rather than fear them.
It taught me that stepping outside familiar surroundings can reveal parts of yourself that you didn’t know were there.
And perhaps most importantly, it taught me to slow down and appreciate where I am rather than constantly thinking about where I am going next.
A Year That Changed My Perspective
A year on the road can change your understanding of what “home” means.
After seeing different landscapes, cultures, communities, and ways of life, the world begins to feel both larger and smaller at the same time.
Larger, because there is so much left to discover.
Smaller, because despite all the differences between people and places, there are universal experiences that connect us.
This year reminded me that life is not only about reaching milestones. It is also about collecting moments that make those milestones meaningful.
A sunrise in an unfamiliar place.
A long conversation with someone you may never meet again.
A road disappearing toward the horizon.
A landscape that leaves you speechless.
A prayer shared with millions.
These are the moments that remain long after the journey ends.
The Story Is Far From Over
One year of travel can produce thousands of photographs, hours of footage, countless stories, and memories that could fill much more than a three-minute film.
This video is only a glimpse into that larger journey.
Behind every clip is a story. Behind every destination is an experience. And behind every experience is a lesson.
The journey from summer 2025 to summer 2026 gave me an opportunity to see more of the world, but it also encouraged me to look inward—to think about faith, gratitude, connection, purpose, and the incredible opportunity we have to experience this world.
There are still countless roads to travel, cultures to discover, people to meet, and stories waiting to be told.
So this isn’t really the end of a one-year journey.
It is another beginning.
One year. A world of experiences. Countless memories. And many more journeys still ahead.
